Pregnancy Acupuncture

Pregnancy Acupuncture

Pregnancy acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can help address many of the common complaints during early pregnancy including morning sickness, nausea and fatigue.  Undertaking acupuncture treatments from preconception to postpartum can assist in optimising health and wellbeing whilst managing physical and emotional stress.

At Launceston Acupuncturist treatments during pregnancy are tailored to the individual needs of the client and may include pregnancy acupuncture, nutritional therapy, Chinese herbal medicine and remedial massage.  These treatments can help balance hormone levels, reduce lower back pain, improve sleep and apply measures for miscarriage prevention.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can also be used to prepare your body for an expedient labour and birth.  Regular visits from 30 weeks are recommended to ensure optimal foetal positioning.  Acupuncture is also an effective technique to turn breech presentation and help to achieve spontaneous labour and uncomplicated birth.

Acupuncture can be used as a form of natural induction for overdue babies.  Induction acupuncture is a natural alternative to medical intervention.  Induction with acupuncture treatment aims to gently encourage uterine contractions to induce labour with a slow build of contractions.

Acupuncture techniques can also be applied to help manage pain in labour.  At Launceston Acupuncturist, Dr. (CM) Spiteri can teach both the mother and her partner how to use acupressure points to reduce the intensity of pain and help achieve a drug free birth.
